Did a backup of my database, and suddenly the entire site was down. I found myself staring at a blank white page and contemplating the notion of five years of diligent doggerel flushed into oblivion. It scared the crap out of me, but it also made me realize that there <em>is</em> a point to all this blogging, beyond the occasional impulse to doodle in words: it's a sort of backhanded brain transcription, an obscure natural history of my mind. I wonder if I'll pull this blog out and leaf through it when I'm 80, the way people leaf through old photo albums, attaching old posts to old memories, watching the curious amalgam of the two illuminate my dotage.</p> The scifi stuff is still happening, just hasn’t made it into the blog recently.
